Pillow Talk

interior decorator, and Brad Allen (Hudson), a womanizing composer and bachelor, who share a telephone party line. When she unsuccessfully files a complaint on him for constantly using the line to woo his conquests, Brad discovers that she is pretty and decides to trick her by masquerading as a Texas rancher. The scheme seems to work until their mutual friend Jonathan Forbes (Randall) finds out about it and exposes Brad.

The Discovery series challenges viewers to enjoy classic films while considering how straight and LGBTQ+ people depicted throughout cinematic history have impacted lives, social mores and current political legislation.

Perry Blackwell, singer and pianist, is probably best known for her small role in the 1959 Doris Day and Rock Hudson comedy vehicle, “Pillow Talk”, directed by Michael Gordon and co-starring Tony Randall and Thelma Ritter as Alma. Perry only had one scene in the film, playing the piano whilst singing “Roly Poly” (and a part of “You Lied”), yet her presence far outshone her A-list screen counterparts.
